Quick practical tips

These are the small details that make the site feel smoother once you know where things are.

Typing macrons

In text fields, type a backtick then a vowel: `a, `e, `i, `o, `u become ā, ē, ī, ō, ū. This also works in sentence-builder typing.

Keyboard controls

Across the site, Enter usually completes the main next action. In word-button practice activities, typing filters the options, Space or Tab picks the highlighted word button, and Backspace removes the last choice. Some activities also have their own Help button for activity-specific controls.

Review and spaced repetition

Words you have intentionally learned can come back later in review. Use the self-rating after each card to help the system decide when to show it again.

Takirua — Matching

Takirua sets live in Papa tākaro and can be replayed any time. Your best score is kept beside each set, even when it also appears in a lesson.

Rerenga

Type the sentence and matching words from the list will autocomplete as you go. Space or Tab picks the highlighted word, Enter checks, and Backspace removes the last choice. You can also click the word buttons if you prefer.

Browse and levels

Browse shows one level at a time. Use Ngā ara ako to move between levels, and look for the highlighted current chapter to find your next likely step.
